Services for DiT members
Issue representation through the DiT Subdivision
The AMA Victoria DiT Subdivision is the peak group representing the interests of all doctors in training in Victoria. It can be a powerful driver of change in the health system if used to its full potential.
An actively engaged membership is the core ingredient for the DiT Subdivision to successfully maintain the strength and relevance of this organisation for its members.
During 2019, the DiT Executive will continue to:
- encourage members to participate and get important issues onto the AMA Victoria agenda
- advocate and bargain for better working conditions through communication with hospitals
- help enforce the DiT Agreement
- work with RMO societies throughout the year
- hold DiT-specific events
- work with the community
- improve Indigenous health and global health
- contribute to AMA Victoria publications, and
- consult with DiT members about workplace issues affecting them
You’re encouraged to attend the monthly committee meetings at AMA House so you can stay abreast of issues and contribute to the DiT Subdivision agenda. The DiT Subdivision meets on the second Wednesday of the month excluding January.

- The consitutution of AMA Vic requires at least one member of the board to be a DiT. Currently that position is held by Dr Enis Kocak (a DiT). Dr Kocak has a record of advocating on DiT issues and actively encourage DiTs to recommend ways for AMA Victoria to better serve its members.
- AMA Victoria's DiT Subdivision is tireless in progressing DiT interests via policy formation, industrial campaigns and by participating in a variety of important government and educational committees. Click here for more information on the Subdivision.
- Based on the number of members, DiTs currently have 7 representatives on the AMA Victoria Council. The council is responsible for electing board members and setting the policy direction of AMA Victoria.
Intern Employment Entitlements
In December 2018, AMA Victoria delivered more gains for its members through enterprise bargaining. The new agreement delivered the following:
- 18% pay increase compared to basic rates of pay over the life of the agreement and a $2000 sign on bonus for doctors employed on 1 January 2018 and when the agreement was approved.
- $2,100 per annum Continuing Medical Education (CME) Allowance (a $1,000 increase to the 2013 rate)
- Minimum breaks between shifts of 10 Hours
- Improvements to ensure the appropriate backfill for doctors on leave, reducing the occurrence of staff shortages.
- Clarity and improved training time entitlement, and clearer obligations on health services to facilitate the taking of Training Time.
- Overtime rates to apply to part timers who are asked to work in excess of contract hours.
- Improved parental leave entitlements, including the extension of contracts where parental leave falls within the contract period.

Higher Duties: How a DiT Should be paid
A HMO paid higher duties on an 86 hour Registrar roster is eligible for 76 hours ordinary time and then 10 hours overtime with pay being based on the Registrar-1 hourly rate for each hour worked.

DiT Safe Hours
While the AMA DiT Agreement 2013-2017 provides guaranteed time off, maximum shift lengths and breaks between shifts, if a DiT’s roster or work pattern is assessed as ‘high risk’ the DiT is entitled to refuse to do the work (sub clause 25.3).
