AMSA ThinkTank has set an ambitious agenda for 2009 after initial ideas were tabled at a first meeting of more than 20 Monash University students in March.
The ThinkTank is a group of passionate Monash medical students who meet regularly to discuss the most pertinent issues facing the health of the nation’s and the world’s citizens.
The group will focus on three major issues for the first semester of 2009 spanning local, national and global health.
At a local level, the impending Student Services & Amenities fees are at the forefront of the agenda. These fees replace VSU and will be introduced to Universities across Australia from July this year. AMSA ThinkTank is in the process of producing a policy document on the new fees and their impact on medical students.
The group will also focus closely on the activities of the National Health & Hospitals Reform Commission this year. ThinkTank will be analysing the interim report released earlier this year in lieu of the final publication due in June.
On a global level, the pertinent issue of climate change and health will take centre stage. AMSA ThinkTank is wary of the impact the current changes in our world’s climate – from the tropics to the arctic – will have on health. The group will create dynamic and innovative policy on climate change and lobby key organisations to address this issue.
