AMA Victoria President Dr Mark Yates has welcomed the State Government’s announcement this week of an additional $12 million for elective surgery and outpatient appointments.“Elective surgery is clearly an important priority for Victorians and AMA Victoria is pleased additional funding is being made available for public hospitals to reduce waiting lists.”
Dr Yates said he was particularly pleased some of this funding would be for additional outpatient appointments.
“AMA Victoria has been lobbying for sometime for increased funding and monitoring of outpatients.
“This funding of 1800 additional orthopaedic outpatient appointments demonstrates the government is acknowledging the issue and is a welcome start to resolving this ‘hidden’ waiting list,” Dr Yates said.
