Doctors join AMA knowing it offers a very powerful voice on policy issues of concern, but members and potential members may not be aware of the many services AMA Victoria offers to assist with the day-to-day running of a private practice.

In-house solicitors
First line legal advice is available to AMA Victoria members and includes guidance on matters of public and private professional practice, ethics and the legal obligations of doctors. If we are not able to assist with your legal matter, AMA Victoria members receive a referral to TressCox Lawyers for a free initial consultation.
Employment relations advice
Our industrial relations advisers are dedicated to providing members with accurate, timely, and up-to-date advice and representation on a range of employment relations and human resources management matters, including advice on relevant awards, counselling and termination of staff.
Practice management advice
In addition to advice and support from AMA Victoria’s IR advisers, members enjoy discounted rates on practice management services and tools from mp practice solutions, as well as free telephone advice on basic aspects of practice management. Services include setting up practices, business model reviews, marketing and accreditation.

Contract review service
Ensure you receive what you deserve with our contract review service for GPs engaged by medical practices. Contract reviews are completely confidential, and provide a report on your proposed or current contract, including recommendations and arguments for improvements where they are needed.
Recruitment services
AMA Victoria members receive generous discounts on recruitment services from mpstaff, including short term and permanent recruitment, and consulting services.

Associate Guide
In response to increasing requests from members, AMA Victoria has developed a purpose-built Associate Guide for doctors thinking about moving into an independent practice. The guide will help you start off with the right legal agreements, save on legal expenses and reduce the potential for future disputes through use of appropriate documentation.

Award Subscriber Service
The Award Subscriber Service is a ready reference to the Modern Award minimum employment standards for medical practice staff. It provides information on the application of the two Modern Awards covering medical practice staff, as well as the National Employment Standards.
Staff education and training
Doctors and practice staff can participate in a wide range of education and training short courses with Solutions Plus Training, AMA Victoria’s new education business. Solutions Plus Training is currently in the process of applying to become a Registered Training Organisation to enable the delivery of accredited training programs.
Private Practice Manual
AMA Victoria’s Private Practice Manual provides doctors and practice managers with a user-friendly practical guide filled with comprehensive advice to assist with setting-up and managing a private medical practice.
Free member seminars and forums
Members have access to a range of free seminars including the medico-legal series, as well as seminars for international medical graduates, financial planning and management, and health and wellbeing.
Victorian Medical Directory
The online Victorian Medical Directory is the pre-eminent directory for doctors to make referrals to other medical practitioners across the state. Members enjoy free listing and access to the directory.
Policy & Procedure Manual
AMA Victoria’s practice support business, mp practice solutions, has developed a comprehensive policy and procedure manual that can be tailored to your practice’s needs. The manual can save you 50-90 per cent of the time required to do it yourself, saving thousands of dollars.
